For the people who know me, and know me well, I never update my blog. I always seem to make new ones all the time and well, there never really was a purpose to them. Just random thoughts, or random videos, or the happenings of my day. Pretty pathetic. But guess what. I now have a purpose.
I was talking to my wife, Linda, the other day, and we were discussing hobbies. We came to the realization that I do not have any. That’s right! I do not have any hobbies. “Aren’t you on the computer all day?” Yes. But that is not a hobby. If anything, my hobby is redesigning this site for the millions of times that I have done so, and never wrote anything. All the way back to when it was kansur.com (which I really wish I still had).
My hobby use to consist of playing video and computer games. The tides have turned. I just don’t have the time for those things anymore. They don’t intrigue me anymore. I use to play Team Fortress 2 with a passion. I created a TF2 clan which incorporated friends I made online while playing the game! Friends that, to this day, I still communicate with. Friends from all over the world including Canada and Germany! I have since resigned from my position in the clan because I knew, and was constantly reminded by my wife, that I needed to spend more time with my family. Now that I have my daughter, Alyssa and Linda are my life! But guess what? I still don’t have a hobby.
So this is where the tides change for the better. For the people who know me, I am a heavy set man. In January of 2011, I weighed in at a whopping 250 pounds (that’s 114 kg to you people on the other side of the world)! I’m only 5’10″, maybe 5’11″ at best. I’m a big guy. In 2011, with my daughter on the way, I’ve lost 15-20 pounds. It fluctuates in that range. Now, 15-20 pounds isn’t a lot by any standard, but keep in mind, I did this while working full time, having a pregnant wife, and once my daughter was born, spending time with her! That’s no small task! Especially trying to lose weight while Linda was pregnant! Everyone was bashing on me while I lost weight and Linda gained it due to her pregnancy. “You’re not suppose to lose weight! You’re suppose to gain it with her so she doesn’t feel fat!” Blasphemy. Linda understood. She’s great like that. She wanted me to lose weight!
But now, I’ve settled. And I need to get it in gear. A co-worker of mine, Frank, has inspired me with his 2011 accomplishments. He recently had a heart attacked and found out his daughter has diabetes type 1. Frank has quit smoking and started running. This weekend, he will run his first marathon. MARATHON. How many of you can run 26 miles?! Hell. I can’t even run 1 mile without stopping. He has introduced me to a friend of his named Robert. In 2011, Robert has become a triathlete. Swimming, biking and running! Now, there are a lot of triathletes out there. What makes Robert so special? Did I mention that in January, he weighed in at 363 pounds? In 10 months, he has lost over 80 pounds and his goal for the year is 100! Mr Inspiration!
So with the help of my wife and family, my goal is to lose 50 pounds. I want to weigh 180 by the end of 2012, if not earlier. The earlier the better. I will run. Run or die trying! Don’t take that literally, but I am going to run like hell! This isn’t a New Year’s resolution. It’s not January! I’m starting this now! You will see me transform on this blog. I will keep you posted on everything I do! All the mileage, all the activities, EVERYTHING will be posted here. It might not be every day, but I will post everything.
So the ultimate goal is to weigh in at 180 pounds. I do have other smaller goals that can be accomplished within that time. I want to run a 5k race, a 10k race, and a half marathon race. It’s doable! I eventually want to run a full marathon, but we’ll see where I’m at later on in 2012. But the first mini-goal, is to run a mile under 10 minutes. Currently, my mile pace is about 12-13 minutes. Very poor for fitness standards. But I know I can do better.
I currently use Runkeeper, an app on my phone that tracks my activities via GPS. You can see what I have already accomplished in 2011 here:

Do you use Runkeeper? Add me as a street teammate and you’ll be able to see details of my activities. As of today, I have done 360 different activities, with a total distance of 706 miles. I have burned off approximately 106,460 calories. That’s approximately 30 pounds of calories.
Lose 50 pounds or bust!
